London Chinatown TaeKwonDo

Our name LCTKD comes from London Chinatown TaeKwonDo, as that's what we became when our early days of open door martial arts grew into regular classes in London Chinatown.

Now we have expanded into many different places and many different arts, but we still teach TaeKwonDo in Chinatown and TaeKwonDo remains at the heart of what we do.

TaeKwonDo is a martial art developed in the 1950s in the South Korean military.  It is closely related to Karate, and is a high intensity martial art with lots of kicks, great for fitness, great for families, and great for self defence.  It is now hugely popular around the world.

There are two main styles of TaeKwonDo - the WTF style which you might have seen in the Olympics, and the ITF style which is more traditional, and at first sight looks more like Karate, just with higher kicks.  We at LCTKD do the ITF style in popular family classes.  Our students are as young as 4 and as forever-young as 60!

Since we began, we have been great believers in making TaeKwonDo available to as many people as possible.  We have classes in village locations as well as at the centre of London's West End, and our classes are inexpensive.  We are also proud of our record in supporting women in TaeKwonDo, with half of our students and half our Instructors female.

Don't let age, unfitness or disability put you off.  You can begin at any age (well, from 4 upwards), and you don't have to be fit to start.  You get fit as you do it!  Our friendly classes have a great pupil:teacher ratio, which means classes are welcoming and everyone is looked after.

You can do both TaeKwonDo and Kickboxing under the same monthly Self Defence subscription.
